A Bluffton chef received national recognition for two of her creations Jan. 19 at the 2018 Good Foods Awards in San Francisco.
Leslie Rohland, owner of The Juice Hive and Health Emporium in Old Town, won the pickles category for her Shiso Leaf Kimchi and Low Country Kimchi.
“When I first moved to Bluffton, I remember an acupuncturist recommending kimchi and rice when I got sick. … I distinctly remember how it helped me feel better,” Rohland said in a press release. “I’m thrilled that not only have people throughout the Lowcountry truly embraced our kimchi, but that we’ve been recognized on a national (level), as well.”
Kimchi is a traditional Korean side dish made from raw fermented vegetables and spices and it has been increasingly embraced in the United States for its health benefits. The vitamin-rich dish is high in fiber and probiotics and is often used as an aid to digestion.
