Homeopathy, which continues to grow in popularity, is a far cry from witchcraft. It’s a type of alternative medicine that uses natural substances, like plants and minerals, to treat common conditions or improve overall wellness.  Homeopathy can be used to treat a wide variety of health issues, including allergies, migraines, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome and PMS – as well as used for minor issues such as bruises, scrapes, toothaches, headaches, nausea, coughs and colds.  Doesn’t sound so different from those all-natural vitamins you take every morning, does it?


So, how does homeopathy work?

Homeopathy uses natural treatments and methods to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. It treats the root causes of disease, not just the surface-level symptoms. Some people use homeopathy in conjunction with conventional medical treatments to manage chronic conditions while others turn to herbal teas when they have the occasional headache. Wherever you lie on the interest spectrum, it’s wise to consult your doctor before trying any natural remedies.

If you’re looking to try homeopathy for yourself, these beginner-friendly herbs and teas are a great place to start.

  • Motherwort is a medicinal leaf that can be used to reduce inflammation and treat heart conditions or symptoms of menopause. You might be wondering, what’s with the…unique name? Motherwort has also been used to induce labor.
  • If you’ve heard of Arnica Gel, then you might be able to guess what the flower is used for! Studies show that Arnica Flower can reduce bruising, swelling, and muscle pain, and can also act as an antibacterial agent.
  • Can’t stop coughing? Lomatium Root is here to help! This root is used to treat respiratory diseases and disorders, as well as other viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.
  • Before you panic, Coltsfoot has a misleading name. Coltsfoot is actually a yellow flower that’s used to treat respiratory conditions like colds, flus, and dry coughs (a.k.a. everything you’re trying to avoid this season).
  • Ate too much Charcuterie at the office holiday party? Add some Angelica Root to your favorite loose-leaf tea – it can relieve heartburn, digestive issues, and bloating.
  • This herb didn’t get its name because it looks like the shreds of your sofa after Snowball decided to “redecorate.” Cat’s claw is a tropical vine that can grow to over 100 feet tall and is covered in hooked thorns that resemble – you guessed it – cats’ claws. The herb is most commonly used as an immunity-boosting dietary supplement to ward off the seasonal crud.
